Revelation Chapter 22
Revelation 22:1And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
- True, living water and the place is now Edenic, restored completely to paradise
- The source of the water is God the Father, the Son Jesus Christ the Lamb
- Today, grace flows from the Throne of God. Then it will be river, because we will have already received grace on earth, and have it there
In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
- Adam and Eve were denied access to the tree of life after the fall
- Now, it is freely accessible to all in Heaven and on Earth
- One tree, twelve types of fruit
- There is a special trait to the tree-the leaves heal all who need healing
And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
Revelation 22:3
And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:
- The original curse is for the first time, removed
- Two persons of the Trinity are here, God and the Lamb of God, the LORD Jesus Christ
- This makes a unique time in history-curse removed, no way it will return ever again, God with man, on earth, perfect world, no enemy, no sin, no curse
- This was the plan, spoiled by the serpent and man in the Garden
- All is once again "very good", as in the Garden
(John 1:29)
The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
(John 1:36)
And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!
Revelation 22:4
And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.
- Another first, man seeing God-and not dying
- We are marked for life, for ever
Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.
Revelation 22:5
And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.
- God is light, so there was never a need for another source
- We will not need any other light because, as it says in 1 John 1:5, we will already be in perfect fellowship with God
This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
Revelation 22:6
And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done.
- This just validates the entire book
- Interesting phrase here, "The LORD God of the holy prophets", another name for God which is unique here and identifies our God as unique, as no other God, because only the One True God can foretell the future
- In God's eternity, there is no time, so this is already complete to Him; we just have to await it in the future
- This is impossible to understand, but nevertheless true
SHORT'LY, adv.
- Quickly; soon; in a little time.
The armies came shortly in view of each other. Clarendon. - In a few words; briefly; as, to express ideas more shortly in verse than in prose.
Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.
- When Jesus comes, there will be no delay, right on time, both ad the Rapture and the Second Coming
- To "keep the sayings of the prophecy of this book" means to hold on to them, read them, memorize them, study them, believe them, adopt them as our own
And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things.
- Having seen the glory of the angel, this would probably be our natural response as well
- He is not falling for any other reason than to worship, as the end of the next verse clearly states
- The falling to his feet is also an acknowledgement of John's own sin, sin nature
- When John earlier fell at the feet of the Angel, it was none other than Jesus Christ Himself, who then accepted that worship as God
(Revelation 1:17-18)
And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
Revelation 22:9
Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.
- This is a strange passage, indicating that this person is a Jew (of thy brethren the prophets) who is in a glorified body, being used and sent as a messenger angel
- the ones who kept the sayings were Jews, or members of the body of Christ, but being John was a Jew, "thy brethren' indicates a Jewsish believer
- This could also be an actual angel, no need for dogma, as we will see who it is then
And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.
- This command goes along with and nearly quotes exactly the blessing given to all who strive to understand this book in chapter one
- The book is to be kept open to all, throughout the ages, to read, understand and be blessed by
(Revelation 1:3)
Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.
Revelation 22:11
He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.
- This is a perfect verse to describe free will, which allows people to make decisions about their lives
- Unjust and filthy, the opposite of righteous and holy, which means we are clean as well
And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
- God will be our reward, above all others
- The wicked were judged and given their reward in chapter twenty

And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

Revelation 22:13
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
- This is God. Period, cover to cover, and the deity of the LORD Jesus Christ again
- Jesus Christ is the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, who was dead for our sins and is now alive (Revelation 2:8)
Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.

Revelation 22:14
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
- The book of life......now the tree of life, same people, same reason (Jesus Christ) for being there
- One tree absent is the tree of the knowledge of good and evil
And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
Revelation 22:15
For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
- With very few exceptions, dogs are never spoken of in a good way in Scripture even in the slightest
- God always uses it as a derogatory term for evil people in Scripture

I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
- It is possible that a fleshly messenger was sent with this book to read it, share it, copy it, perpetuate it
- The root means Jesus is the Creator, the origin of David
- The offspring means Jesus Christ is the rightful heir to the throne of David
And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
